MIGUEL ALBUQUERQUE HOPES THAT MASSIVE TESTING WILL REACH THE ENTIRE POPULATION

Miguel Albuquerque hopes that massive testing of covid-19 will reach the entire population.

At the press conference where the lifting of some restrictions was made known, the President of the Regional Government recalled that the tests can be done in pharmacies and are free of charge, advising the general population to do them.

Regarding the vaccination process, he informed that, at this moment, more than 80 thousand inoculated have already been vaccinated, and about 21 thousand have already taken the two doses.

There have been hardly any appointments made for the first day, and only 2 pharmacies doing this, but by the end of the week there will be 22 pharmacies offering the tests.

With the risk so so low on the island of actually having covid, is anyone going to bother with this.???

  1. Exactly…the test is only valid for the same day you do the test..so what’s the point….??
    Do the test every day… don’t think so.
    Where is getting the advice from?? ..probably his own idea …

  2. Surely the aim is to vaccinate everyone with 2 doses as quickly as possible. I assume the delay is due to lack of vaccines.

  4. A sensible proven idea, of course it is only valid the day of the test! Mass testing is quicker than mass vaccination, so “test & contain if required” whilst running out the vaccination program & protect your population, can’t understand the negative comments on this.

  5. Quite remarkable that soon it will be about year and a half since the pandemic started and some people seem to still not understand the purpose of testing. The purpose of testing is not to identify who is negative. The purpose of testing is to identify who is currently positive so he can be isolated. There is only one way you can identify positive cases. Testing both people who are negative, people who are incubating, and people who are currently positive. Just like a fisherman throws a net into the ocean. If only 10 fishes come back on the net it does not mean there are no other fishes around. If he changes location and throws the net but this time 50 fishes come back on the net, he knows there are still other fishes in the whole ocean but probably if the throws the net again the next day where he captured the 50 fishes, he will likely still get more fishes there than where he captured 10 initially. You do the same with covid tests. This is called an epidemiological survey and characterization and it is essential to keep things under control.

  6. Between the 2 vaccinations of Pfizer can be 3-6 weeks apart. As for the quick tests, of 20 minutes waiting time: these are not 100% reliable. If you have been with people with corona for longer than 15 minutes, the chance of being positive is greater. If there are no symptoms, stay in quarantaine for 5 days. After 5 days, do the longer test. 5 days is also a incubation period. Well, the test that takes a little longer than the 20-minute test is a good test.

  7. I’m with Toby on this one. It is highly contagious but it is a flu with survival rate 97% elderly and 99% rest of population. We should all have it by now. It looks like mismanagement of public founds. We have people in need of government support on the island, not to splash peoples cash on tests. Will any of you go to take one ? Do not think so…..

  8. In answer to Tobi but in the main to your suspect statistics, can I add one that you seem to have overlooked. As of 9-36 this morning the total number of deaths, from the flu you speak of, were 3,126,361 worldwide, all human beings with relatives they left behind. Just over the population of 13 Madeira’s.

    1. Not trivialising the seriousness of COVID as a disease as it is much more serious than flu.

      However George did you know that in 2021 so far it is estimated that close to 19M people will have died worldwide, in only 4 months! All human beings with relatives they left behind. Just over the population of 73 Madeiras.

      Did you know that week ended 16th April in the UK 10,438 people died, 10,100 not with Covid. All human beings …

      George some stats you may have also overlooked, the WHO also estimates that in 2018 Vaccine Preventable Diseases were still responsible for 1.5 million deaths each year. Also there were 400,000 Malaria deaths globally.

      Reporting certain stats every day drives fear.

      1. People have been focusing a lot on mortality rates and have forgotten the real issue with the overwhelmed health services. If no restrictions were imposed we would see in “our part of the world” scenes very similar to the ones found on India right now with people rushing to hospitals with their family only to find they need to stay in their cars,hospitals running out of oxygen, people dying in the queue waiting for oxygen, and a lor of people dying in their homes because they had no proper care since all medical staff involved in Covid fight. Yes, this would happen in Europe and UK if no restrictions were imposed and no, flu does not cause these types of scenarios.

        1. Are your quoted figures excess deaths? Where’s the source. Antonio I am not arguing against lockdowns to protect health services. I am arguing against selective use of statistics to drive fear and distorted perceptions of risk. In the UK it is still not legal to stay at my mother’s house over night even though she has had 2 Pfizer vaccines.

          1. The figure I used, 3,126,361, deaths, were attributed purely to the virus. My source was https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus Please bear in mind these are certainly lower than the truth because of the difficulties of getting accurate information.
            It seems in this day that when a Government/ Authorities action concurs with ones thinking, then all is well with the world. Should any decision or action by them not fit or not follow the thoughts then the shout goes up of a selective use of statistics and distorted perceptions of risk. Why not use the terms brain washing and conspiracy.
            You are correct that regulations prevent over night stays with family, indeed there are many pettifogging details, but how many directly affect you ? But look on the bright side, it’s a good peg to hang my civil liberties are being eroded hat on.
            And yes, I think you are trivializing the virus by comparing it with flu.
