VICE PRESIDENT ADMITS MEASURES COULD BE LIGHTENED NEXT WEEK

Pedro Calado admitted today that the restrictive measures imposed in the Region could be eased from next week.

The vice-president of the Regional Government thus confirmed what the JM has advanced this weekend, that from next Monday the executive can mitigate the measures, although he has not committed himself to changing the curfew.
Calado justified that the announcement will fall to the president of the Regional Government.

    1. This “rubbish” has saved many lives. Problem is some people are more concerned with their late night meals out other than lots of people dying.

  2. We come regularly to Madeira. We don’t like to stay in the hotel all the time but like to get out and eat and drink in the local bars and restaurants. Happy to sit outside and observe social distancing and wear masks indoors as required. But if Madeira want holiday makers back you will need to open up a bit. Still hoping to be with you on 31st May ?

    1. I don´t know where you are from, I am from Germany and live here since 15 month. I can say, that more Germans would come if the regulations for returning would not be that strict. The only real restriction we have here on the island is the curfew. Restaurants are open till 18.00, as well as cafes and bars. All the rest ist distance, masks, desinfection. It is so easy to live with that and if everybody would at least accept the minor rules, the travel situation would be much better.

  3. I’m from the UK Michael. We cannot travel abroad until 17th May at the earliest and even if that date is approved for overseas travel we can basically only go to green listed countries, unless we want to quarantine on the way back. Some writers are saying Portugal will be green, others that it will be amber. All this, plus the requirement for very expensive PCR tests are putting travel abroad out of the reach of many people. So we really want the curfew lifted if we have to spend extra on Covid tests.

No travel, no tourists, no business, so curfew as a general uplift in business activity is academic, overwelming the limited health service would be a disaster, but its all opinions at our level, i ask each and everyone of us, would you swap places with the people who make the calls and I ask, what guarantees do we have you will get it more right!!! I for one wouldn’t.

  6. I really enjoy the high intellectual level of debate on here especially Mr Reed and the OBE guy. Even managed to drag Antonio down into it…..some achievement….
