MADEIRA ALLOWS ENTRY OF PEOPLE INOCULATED WITH ANY VACCINE

The Regional Government has decided that people who have been inoculated with any of the different vaccines being administered worldwide can enter the region, said Pedro Ramos.

“Madeira has considered receiving all the vaccines administered so far worldwide,” Pedro Ramos told reporters at the Funchal Vaccination Centre.

In addition to the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency, [BioTech Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen], the resolution adopted by the Madeiran executive allows the entry of travelers with vaccines produced by other pharmaceutical companies.

This is the case of SinoPharm or Sinovac (from China), Covaxin (India), Epivaccorona (Russia) or the Sovereign (Cuba).

“They are in the resolution of the Regional Government and will be accepted in the Autonomous Region of Madeira because if millions of people have been vaccinated with these vaccines, their degree of protection is similar to others”, considered the Madeiran official.

Talking about the fact that summer is a time for many emigrants to return, Pedro Ramos considered that “the probability of many having had another type of vaccine is also smaller because most countries have adopted vaccines that at European Union level are being authorized and made available to those same countries”.

The government official said that he is not aware of any case, “until now, of the arrival of an emigrant or tourist with another type of vaccine.”

Pedro Ramos highlighted that the archipelago’s health authorities are “at this moment, following the development of the variant [originating in India], Delta and its expressiveness worldwide”.

“We had 10% in our transmission chains, now we have increased to over 20% in the last samples we sent to the National Institute of Health (INSA)”, he indicated.

But Pedro Ramos stressed that “this increase has no expression in terms of the severity of the disease in Madeira because the region still has no people admitted to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital”, in Funchal, in the units dedicated to Covid-19.

Today, Madeira has more than 100,000 residents with complete vaccination, which represents 40% of the population, said the regional secretary.

  1. Sounds like a desperate island no tests on arrival will be riddled with covid in no time.

      1. And your point is ? all the covid vaccines have no protection against covid you can catch it carry it and spread it !! No testing for the vaccinated on arrival only means covid import good luck with that.

        1. And that’s fine if course we will get more cases, tomorrow we have 36 flight arrivals, our busiest day since all this begun, but with the vaccines especially in the elder generations, hospital cases and very low, and zero in Madeira….

        2. Yes, I heard that doom speach for the last 1.5 years that the day after tomorrow the virus will dizimate Madeira but then it never happens.
          If people comply with basic rules it does not matter if the variant is Delta or Tomato. The problem resides in countries where the “Liberty day” is when you no longer have to wear a mask. “Liberty day” with hundreds of people in ICU. This is the sort of countries that we should be concerned about.

        3. Why would you need another test here if you had a negative test within 72 hours of arriving. Do try and keep up.

    This sentence literally makes zero sense. How many people have received the vaccines has ZERO bearing on the degree of protection they confer. This is painful to read.

  5. It is a bit of a curates egg situation. We came on June 21st for two weeks holiday having had all the vaccinations, tests, completed the Madeira safe entry forms, only to find that the bulk of the hotel staff have not even had one jab.

  8. … Looking at the evidence (40%) of the population Vaccinated, 1 death in the past 5 or 6 weeks, nobody in hospital, plenty of tourists coming and going already, yet Very little change in case numbers which anyway doesn’t seem to be as important as it was last year as the vaccine seems to be doing a good job of preventing serious consequences in those that do catch the Virus regardless of the “Variant” ,, I can’t see Any reason to change or complicate matters by refusing entry and imposing useless restrictions just to Pamper the Paranoid !! … The Vaccines Are working so things can only get better …

    2. Paranoia has nothing to do with it.

      Allowing people to arrive with covid, without us becoming aware of it, is quite plainly allowing new transmission chains to arise without the ability to track them.

      If you allow a visitor to NOT BE TESTED simply because they have received an inefficient vaccine, you are leaving the islands vulnerable to visitors carrying covid and spreading it without anyone even knowing to chase up and isolate contactees.

      It just isn’t smart. Even one unnecessary case of covid is one too many if it is due to stupidity. The only saving grace is that visitors to the islands from countries that have allowed inefficient vaccines, are going to be relatively rare. But that’s no excuse for an ill-conceived policy. How hard is it to mandate that inefficient vaccine recipients will still need to be tested prior to departure, or upon arrival?

  9. I have something to input here…..I travelled back to Madeira on Monday, had that swab shit done to fly and was negative. Having been stuck in what most people conceive as the viral hotspot of zombie infected Covid People in the UK, 6 months of couch surfing, 12 flights since this started and not knowing one single person who has been infected…and me not wearing a mask in the entire time, because I decided to be exempt and wore a lanyard (so I didn’t get bullied seeing as that is acceptable nowadays) with my movements of flouting every bloody UK rule and hugging, kissing everyone and being NORMAL which is against the law now…I worked in a bar in my final weeks, where it was absolutely impossible to be the fun police, social distance and not breath over anybody or be breathed over whilst doing table service…my point being…why are we 18 months down the line so convinced still that COVID is going to get us? If you have managed to avoid it now, are you not going to statistically avoid it in the future? And go look at THOSE statistics…because MOST people won’t catch it…and if they happen to, MOST people won’t die or end up in hospital! The vast majority who do catch it, don’t die! So, why now do we need to be vaxed? Why now make it a condition to travel? How is this legal to start with…to allow a vaccinated individual have more rights over and unvaccinated individual when the criteria is in-differential in the two? Do people actually buy into this fear porn? Where are your brains?

      You are confusing your anecdotal experience for data. Great: you never got sick. Extrapolating from that, that there is no danger, isn’t smart. You’re asking people where their brains are? Find yours first.

      You have not necessarily beat the odds. Maybe you had it and were asymptomatic. That does not mean you won’t catch a variant and become sick for it today. Look at the common cold: some years we barely register it while our friends get pummeled. Other years, we get pummeled. Variants matter.

      And it isn’t just deaths: by now, even the most information-adverse must have heard of long covid. Anywhere between 25% and 50% of covid cases will become long covid. I’d ask you to inform yourself of the personal, mental and economic ramifications of long covid, but the fact you haven’t yet mean you probably don’t care.

      ‘Why do we need to get vaxed?’ ‘Why do we need it to travel’ … First, many countries don’t require you to be vaccinated to travel. You just need to test negative. Those who do require vaccines do so for a reason. Here’s why: the vaccines work. Even the less efficacious ones work fairly well. Governments and airlines want to protect their citizens and their passengers: it is in their own interest to do so. And newsflash, they get to make their own rules when it comes to safety. It is their country, their business. If you don’t understand this, I think you should take pause before wondering where other people have left their brains.

      1. Aromasammy you are dangerous with your views but even worse totally selfish, we have lost friends and family to this and now as I sit typing are worried to death for our son,daughter in law and grandchild who have gone down with this and have no idea how they were infected.
