Que se will be everywhere today for those that want to go to place that need bother the test and vaccine, I’m sure lack of tests will be another story.

My friend tried the airport again early this morning, already 60-70 people waiting in line.

He then went to the private hospital particular, and there were more than 50 outside waiting.

The same pictures will be the same all around the city today as these photos show from yesterday from Andrew Gentile of the winding queues to get a test at the tents in town.

  1. How are people getting on testing outside of Funchal? Estrela, Calheta had no appointments and you couldn’t book for the following week as they didn’t know how many tests they would have. They don’t answer the phone or respond to emails even though they said they had received it. Friends said Ponta do Pargo was also fully booked, out of tests. I don’t know about Arco. Not going to drive around the island trying to get a test. It will be the restaurants that loose out if I can’t get the test that allows me to go and eat out. More testing stations are needed in places other than Funchal.

  5. Do you think the next days will become better ? we are afreight that beginning of december there would be much more trouble

    1. I think it can only get worse. More people will want to go out and about for Christmas and as the tourist numbers climb.It is like watching the collapse of the testing system in the UK last September all over again (people were having to drive hundreds of miles to get a test back then).

      1. So Bad, I assume the same. I have already contact our Hotel, maybe they can already book us in for a test at the hotel in 2 weeks.. hope this will help us out. We dont want to cancel and think we also cannot without charges.

  6. Especially because even the supermarket wanted to see a test, even if they still let us in after a short discussion. How should this work out if because of the lack of tests and strategie people are cut off from necessary goods? Isn’t that kind of a problem with constitution and law?

  7. This might prove helpful to those who have passport as identification rather than a citizen card. After you have the test ( antigen) which we had done in Santa Cruz yesterday you get a text with a link. If you follow this it ends with identification number UNFORTUNATELY it doesnt accept passport numbers only citrizen cards so you have to return to pick up your test resujlt

  8. Observations walking around Funchal today. Still possible to enter shopping areas without being asked anything whatsoever. The cafes in the shopping centre aren’t asking for anything. The supermarket doesn’t seem to be checking documents. Nor do the shops, though I saw one place that seemed to have an employee at the door looking at people’s phones. Other than that, not much seems to have changed. In some of the expat groups for Madeira (Facebook), I saw that in some supermarkets around Funchal and the island, there is a guard who simply asks whether people have a certificate/test, but just accepts “yes” as an answer without checking or bothering them. Others say they were asked for nothing/no one was even controlling the entry of people. On the other hand, I saw two uniformed police officers exiting the Magic Health Club near the sea in Ajuda. Looks like there will be inspections to make sure restaurants, bars and gyms are complying.

  9. … I’ve been into Pingo Doce (Anadia) tonight and the the security guard was politely only (looking) not checking documentation, he told the lady before me If you Don’t want to show me any proof you don’t need to and you will still be allowed in to shop ,, seems like they are going for a sensible soft approach to the new law? ….

  10. We went to Arco da Calheta on Tuesday 23rd to book a test and the first appointment was 13th December !!!!
