I have just updated the blog post pinned on my site.

I have just booked all my family’s tests to return, on Madeira Safe, and with our local pharmacy.

All very straight forward and it’s all on the blog post about entering Madeira and returning home, all you need to know.

  1. Could you please confirm that we will get a free PCR test on arrival from U.K. to Madeira on Monday? And that we self isolate until we get the result ?? Thank you

  2. Very informative. We are currently in Guernsey for a week, how different from Madeira, we have been her 4 days and not seen one mask it is like England or madeira was 3 years ago. No social distancing no restrictions on numbers and you enter any shop or restaurant maskless.

    1. Hi Mike, a note of caution:
      I don’t know if this applies to Guernsey or is mainly in the other Channel Islands, but according to http://www.worldometers the current stats for CI show about 1 in 56 people there have Covid (Pop:175.6k, Active CV cases 3132).
      For ‘let it rip’ UK the stat is 1 in 65.
      Of course there are many variables – tourist numbers, testing, reporting of infections/recoveries etc. and not everyone who is yet to recover will be equally infectious.

      For Madeira the stat is about 1 in 1111 (Pop: c 250k, active cases 225).
      I think Madeira is doing very well. Stay safe.

  3. Could you please confirm that we get a free PCR test on our arrival at Funchal airport on Monday 26th July and that we self isolate until we get the result? Your help is much appreciated

    If you click upon the Home button on this page you will see Tobi has put the details about entering and leaving Madeira. You are allowed a free pcr test on arrival and as you mention will have to self isolate until results are known. Everything you need to know has been listed by Tobi. Hope this helps.

  6. I will be wearing a mask for a long time to come, wherever I am. Also using sanitizer.

  7. The Jet 2 site today says once PCR test is taken at airport in Madeira I need to isolate at my accommodation and wait for the result. As I have a holiday home there, and that’s where I isolated for 12 hours in October last year, I was hoping it’s the same rule now as it was then.

    Just used the MadeiraSafe free return antigen test at Farmacia Avenida in Funchal. Very quick and professional. Just waiting for the result now.

  9. I am somehow registered several times on the Madeira Safe app, as I have entered Madeira twice in the last month – once from where I live, on Porto Santo, and once from the Azores. I have logged into one of these accounts, and requested a PCR test in Porto Santo before travelling to the UK on Mon 2nd August. However, after adding all the requested details, I do not get an automatic appointment, just a note that my request has been submitted?

You should get notified of an appointment nearer your leaving date mine came by email after it being noted as “submitted” on the app. I subsequently changed to an antigen test because it was far easier to obtain than the PCR. All went really well, had my antigen test in Funchal town centre (one of the tents) and went to pick up the result (paper format) from the nearby pharmacy 45 minutes later (just time to have a coffee). The test was free because I was double jabbed.

    2. Thank you – so far as I can see the UK is asking for a negative PCR test. I went back to the clinic in Porto Santo late yesterday afternoon, and the receptionist had no idea about how long it would be before I heard, but I am guessing as we have to request the test 4 days before we need it, it will be early next week. I have already bought and paid for my Day 2 test. As I am double-vaccinated here and am registered and have a cartão de cidadão I don’t think I will have to pay for the test here. I must say that travelling to the Azores was much easier 🙂 Many thanks for the helpful replies.

    I have read all the helpful information….thankyou
    I have been trying to get info for xmas…no luck too soon they say …..but as a senior citizen travelling alone its a worry . I was there last xmas . Things have changed re test return to uk .
    The point is travel dates with Jet2 .. coming not a problem 20th and gettjng my test before travel fine.
    The worry is flight home 27th Dec ……xmas day and boxing day and Xmas eve .preceding……I doubt getting test will be possible maybe all closed ?
    I dare not book my holiday becausd of this .
    Any information would be helpful

    1. Clinics pharmacy will all be open, so it’s not a problem. Even if you needed to pay its 15- 20 euros for and Antigen . But lots can change, and you might not tests at all returning.

  12. Thank you. I went hunting, and on the gov.uk site, you are quite right:

    “This could include tests such as:

    1. a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests

    2. an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device

    As I am still waiting for my appointment for a test at Porto Santo clinic (coming up to 4 days now since I requested it) I will go to the receptionist tomorrow and say it could be an antigen test, and can I book it for Fri or Sat. If no joy, I will try the pharmacy. Thank you for all your help.

    To Elaine, who is nervous of booking for England over Christmas – it is so likely that the rules will have changed by Christmas anyway, I would check with Jet2 and go ahead and book, on the understanding that if the rules change, or the status of Madeira changes on the UK’s list, then you can change the date of your flight. The Easyjet flight I am taking next week (hopefully!) was booked just over a year ago.

  13. Hi Tobi having problems with return antigen test. Madeira safe asking for a code number but all we have is what we showed on the app at airport, no code number. Test booked for Monday but they need this number. Help.
