Santa Cruz at Maximum risk of Fire

In the archipelago of Madeira, the municipality of Santa Cruz presents today a maximum risk of fire.

The municipalities of Machico, Funchal, Câmara de Lobos (only some localities) and Porto Moniz (some localities) risk very high, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The fire risk determined by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from “reduced” to “maximum”, with “high” being the third most serious level.

Calculations for this risk are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The risk of fire may decline from today in some regions of the country due to the forecast of weak rain and falling temperatures.
