Wind above 100 km/h in the mountainous regions of Madeira

No problems to report at the airport, all seem to be arriving OK.

The morning was particularly windy in the mountainous regions, with the wind blowing above 100 km/h in the mountains of Funchal.

Today, until 10 am, at the 13 automatic meteorological stations equipped with anemometer (an instrument that measures wind speed) in the IPMA network in the Region, the maximum gust had reached 103 km/h and was recorded in Pico Alto, at 05:00.

Further up, in Chão do Areeiro (highest station equipped with an anemometer), the wind reached up to 95 km/h (00:20). At intermediate levels, it was in Prazeres that the most wind was recorded (72 km/h at 05:50). Three records that meet the yellow warning criteria for wind in the Madeira Archipelago.

Despite also blowing strongly in the Santa Cruz/Airport area, the maximum gust was ‘only’ 63 km/h and was recorded during the ‘rest’ period (03:20) at the airport.
