A walk I have not done for 14 years, so last Monday we decided to walk this levada, and good time to do it with no tourists about.
It is one of the most popular walks, and it was a pretty hot day . We had planned to do the walk from the Calheta side where you walk through a long tunnel, but this is closed as they are working on it. So the only way was to walk down from Rabaçal, not a great idea, as the walk back up, its pretty long, and in full sun, is something I will not do again.
But the walk is very nice, and on the way back up, we took a 15 minute (each way) detour to see the Waterfall Risco, which is well worth seeing and is a short flat detour.
I don’t think I would do this walk again, especially when all the tourists are back, cause I could see how crowded it gets, but if I was to do it again, then I would defiantly do it from the Calheta tunnel, and miss the walk up, which was only 1,8Km from the forest house but seemed to go on forever…
