Porto Santo Mayor welcomes Binter’s return but criticizes flight schedule

The Mayor of Porto Santo, Idalino Vasconcelos, expressed himself, this afternoon, “very satisfied” with the resumption of air connections by Binter from Monday, but warned that the schedule of the last flight of the day from Madeira “does not serve” either the Spanish company or the Portosantenses.

Speaking to Rádio Praia, the mayor said that “the recovery of Binter is very important since it will energize our economy, which at the moment is gradually recovering and gives people in Porto Santo the opportunity to make the trips they need to Madeira for medical consultations, hospital treatments, among other matters ”. In this regard, it welcomed the efforts made by the Regional Government with the airline and the Central Government to reestablish connections.

However, Idalino Vasconcelos noted that “the schedule [of the scheduled flights] is not the best for Porto Santo”, especially that of the last flight of the day in the direction Madeira-Porto Santo. “It was difficult to get the flight to take place at 6:00 pm between Funchal and Poto Santo (it was before 5:00 pm), now they come down to 4:55 pm. I believe that this schedule is not even useful to Binter and even less to the people of Porto Santo because no one will be able to be on time to make the connection between Funchal and Porto Santo ”, explained the mayor.

Anyway, Idalino Vasconcelos believes that the decision of the Regional Government to apply the mobility subsidy both for sea travel and for the areas will be very important to attract Madeiran tourists to the golden island in the coming months and to boost the local economy.
