Madeira keeps ‘immaculate’ record for 36 consecutive days

For 36 consecutive days, Madeira has maintained the same number of positive cases for Covid-19, a fact confirmed in the late afternoon of Thursday with the release of the epidemiological bulletin of IASaúde.

Since the 5th of May, no new positive tests for Covid-19 have been registered, highlighting the fact that the same five people remain active.

Still not sure why there are so many Public places closed on the island when there is no spread of the virus.

  2. How can the 5 people still test positive with no new cases in 36 days if you are only supposed to quarantine for 14 days and then be virus free or non contagiant?

    1. It can take up to two months in some cases to test negative, as we have already seen on the island,and these people will be the ones from Câmara de Lobos, who were the last to become infected.

  5. This is wonderful news. Throughout this pandemic, Madeira have controlled this virus really well (unlike other countries). Everyone will agree that there is still a long way to go so keep up the good work and stay safe.

  6. Great news for Madeira you have weathered the virus pandemic really well. Only wish UK would be more sensible social distancing in my area is a laughing stock. Madeira is such a polite and courteous island. Hope the island sees the tourists back soon.

    1. Of course the island needs the tourists. Urgently even. Many people’s livelihood depends on them. But there is a great BUT. It won’t be possible to control covid-19 when tourists start coming back to the island from July 1st. Simply because testing on arrival and then send the tourists on their merry way before getting the result, with only an advice for social distancing will not be sufficient to keep the virus out. Plus, people without symptoms are known to infect others without anyone being aware of it. And they have been on the same plane. It’s a devil’s dilemma.
      On the other hand, the Madeiran health services are better prepared now than they were at the start of the pandemic. As I said, the island needs the tourists but receiving them is not without risk. Let’s hope for the best.

      1. So what do you suggest, Peter? The Hospitality Industry feeds the Island. Madeira could keep itself safe by carrying on with it’s actions, going back to the 50’s and exporting it’s young men or it has to bite the bullet. I am booked to return in August and I hope we will be safe but my Euros are opening the Restaurants and Bars employment necessary to Madeira.

      10/10 for the NHS but can’t say the same for the Govt.

  7. Really well done to all Madeirense. It took a huge effort and a lot of sacrifice to get such a contagious disease under control. My hope is that the earlier implemented sacrifices everyone has made will be rewarded with a sooner, healthier future in more ways than one.
