The snow that fell during the night left a white blanket in the ridges of the mountains of Madeira, visible in several points of the island, namely from downtown Funchal.
Thermometers dropped below freezing in mountainous regions, with the Pico do Areeiro weather station registering an extreme minimum temperature of -2.7 degrees, at 2h20 am on Saturday.
Also in Chão do Areeiro, the minimum temperature reached -0.9 degrees at 2:30 am and in Bica da Cana (Paul da Serra) -0.3 degrees.
Circulation on mountain roads is not recommended for safety reasons. For this reason, Civil Protection keeps ER 202 closed – between Poiso and Pico do Areeiro ER 203, Estrada das Carreiras, between Montado do Pereiro and Poiso, as well as ER 218 – Between Pico das Pedras and Teixeira’s find, all due to snowfall.
