UNUSUAL ACCIDENT IN CAMINHO DO AMPARO

An unusual situation happened this afternoon in the parking lot of the Amércia building, on the Caminho do Amparo.

For reasons that we do not know, a car climbed the wall of the finished parking on top of another car parked on the lower floor.

It was necessary to use a crane to lift the car from its position.

  4. I’d be curious to know how the driver got out ? Or is she still hiding on the floor ????

  5. Another example of inadequate safety been provided when constructed, all too often walls are of inadequate hight and no fencing in place when required, but this is EU legislation on safety , I think not.
    My comments are not going to change anything, but anyone who has any knowledge of Health & Safety know what I refer too.
    I previously brought to the attention of the
    F C Municipal the dog compound at Ajuda park.
    I pointed out the windows with no bars to prevent children or dog’s jumping through.
    At the other side is a 4 meter fall on to tarmac.
    It was referred to the enviroment department who informed me that it is the responsibility of the parents and dog owners to ensure they don’t go through the window openings.
    So much for safety, on a risk assessment In my previous employment this would constitute a high risk with potential for fatalities, or serious injuries.
    I rest my case.

  6. I’ve never seen much Health and Safety ! I used to be so shocked watching the guys putting the Christmas lights up on the trees.
    No hard hats . 1 guy up the tree , the other with one foot on the ladder having a fag!

Like you David, my background allows some comment here, the H and S here is really bad and considering its supposed to be universally approached across EU,bewildering, low walls, no railings, unequal step rises, holes in pavements left unattended ( a garden wall collapsed and fell half way across road here in Liveramenta before christmas and is still lying there, the remaining wall is precariously leaning and right next to bus shelter, we use a staircase on a regular basis at Aki and the handrail fixings into the steps are non existing.
    Go to any supermarket first thing in morning and your likely as not get run over by a staff member playing race cars with pallet truck.
    And don’t get me on subject of positons of zebra crossings ( always right next to bus stops so you don’t know if waiting to cross or waiting for bus) or slip roads onto major roads like V1 and the use or lack of use of indicators.
    Is it our problem or theirs!!! We threw out the old understanding of ” if you want to see who is responsible for your safety, look in the mirror ” approach years ago and handed it over to others, maybe not the best approach and maybe here not best approach to have no collective responsibility but something in between eh.

    1. Zebra crossings are one of my hates on the island, in a space of 500 meters from my home there are 13, most on bends and totally unnecessary…

  9. If you look at the photo the driver was fortunate that there was a car below for them to land on. If that parking space had been empty the longer drop would likely mean the car could have landed on the boot and rolled onto its roof or on its side.
