35% infected with Covid after vaccination are health professionals

At least 139 people contracted the Covid-19 virus even after being vaccinated against the coronavirus.

132 people were infected after the first dose and seven after the second dose. Among these cases are health professionals.

Health authorities reaffirm the need to maintain preventive measures (wearing a mask, social distance and hand washing) for those who are vaccinated.

      1. Two questions: how many of these infections happened shortly after vaccination, ie before immunity could develop? And how careful is the “cold chain ” keeping vaccine at right temperature en route to Madeira?

        Did you research the source ??? This article in Agora Madeira leaves more questions than answers… By the way… If you are vaccinated , you are vaccinated with a small particle of the virus to boost your immune system… That’s the way vaccinations work… If you don’t react… then I would be worried !

        1. You are not vaccinated with a live particle of the virus. You also have no protection for 3 weeks

  2. Diseased? or simply tested positive without symptoms of illness ? How long will such inaccurate reports continue?

      1. Because when you are vaccinated you always will test positive…. that’s the way vaccinations work against flu like illnesses. That’s why the EU wants to introduce a vaccination passport to avoid this basic biases.

        1. You do not test positive just because you have been vaccinated. It’s not possible because it is not a live vaccine

          1. No the vaccinated particle is not live but your immune system’s reaction is ! that’s the whole purpose of the vaccination

  3. Yes, whether you have “symptoms of illness” or not, if you test positive you have the virus !
    Also, as already mentioned, for the first 2 weeks after the 1st vaccination you have no protection from the virus but efficacy increases exponentially from then on. Even after the 2nd vaccine you are meant to wait 4 weeks before you have the maximum protection.

  4. Hopefully we all know that it takes three weeks to gain immunity and no vaccine is 100% effective. The Oxford jab gives 76% protection after 22 days and increases to 82% after second jab. So even if you have had a jab you need to continue with all the covid safety protocols until this virus disappears, which it probably will not. But the point is and the most important thing , if you get covid after 3 weeks of immunisation you will not get seriously ill and not need hospital care.

  5. The covid cases AFTER vaccination. They are at variance with everywhere else. not least the UK where over 23 million have now been vaccinated, yet no similar facts have emerged. Have these cases been validated and verified? It seems very odd indeed.

  7. This seems to be a very high incidence of vaccine “failure”. Are there any statistics from elsewhere to compare?

    1. Ruth, the vaccine has not failed. Even after two doses you can still catch the virus. The aim of the vaccine is to give you a head-start on the virus and enable your immune system to beat it. You should avoid all the worst symptoms and most importantly not require hospitalization. Consequently, vaccinated people must still wear a mask, keep 2mtrs apart and wash hads etc.

  8. There were only reports of vaccine arriving in Madeira a few weeks ago. People vaccinated have obviously not been observing the distancing and normal hygiene rules. Wearing a mask yet rubbing shoulders with others is not socially distancing – 2 metres is quite a long distance, which virtually no-one observes.

  9. Since begin of the year there had been about 6.000 positive tests on the island, which are 2-3% of the population. The 138 is not an unusual high number, using this ration on the people that are vaccinated.
    The vaccines are protecting nearly 100% against serious infections. But according the release tests only about 70-95% in general against infections with Covid19.
    The vaccines are really good but they do not make you bullet proof. I might be thought if the green channel without negative test is really a good idea.

  10. My understanding is that a vaccine does not stop you being infected with COVID. What it does do, hopefully, is to prevent severe symptoms that require hospitalisation and death.
    Having the vaccine cannot give a positive PCR test. Or lateral flow.
    What is the great unknown is whether the vaccine reduces the risk of transmission through a more immediate and effective immune response. It would do that by quickly suppressing the amount of virus circulating in the blood stream, and hence the quantity expressed via breathing. One viral particle does not cause infection; there is a “minimum infective dose”. Also, it is well known that the amount of virus that one might be inoculated with predicts how ill you might get. But this is at a population level, and individual variation is large.
    Reading the PCR result for the virus also needs to be taken into account. This test is very sensitive. It goes through cycles and on each cycle the amplification is doubled. There is a lot of evidence that the number of cycles (ct) is important before an adequate amount of the virus is copied to a level at which it is detected. If the ct is >35 then its impossible to infect susceptible cell lines in petri dishes. In other words the test is positive but either the virus has disintegrated or there is such a small amount present it cannot infect. Some people say that even a ct>25 makes a person uninfective.
    Finally, as someone has correctly alluded to, it can take weeks to develop full immunity. And not everyone is protected. When I get the vaccine I hope that I will feel rough for a day as that probably means my immune system is working and responding well. If I feel fine……who knows?
    In conclusion, it’s pretty obvious that we cannot draw any conclusions from this story except to say that we do not have all the facts and that vaccines probably do not stop you catching COVID!

  13. I can’t find an author of this report, I’ve looked at the original site but there is no indication where this “story” originated. Is it from the Hospital, which one ? From the Governor ? There are only two “facts” in what is a five line story. If this is true, and it may be, I would expect far more reporting along with quotatations from named sources.

    1. that’s what I thought. No word that it was RTP they quoted…. and if it’s true, where did RTP got their data ? So; rumour still has it !
