Police in Madeira are taking the case of the Virus seriously!
PSP Madeira is stopping vehicles to find out about the destination and the reason for their trip. Some have already been warned to return to their homes for not sufficiently justifying their circulation.

  3. My rent period is ending tomorrow and I need to drive to Calheta from Funchal with a rental car. Will this be a justifiable reason? I’m a tourist who just constantly stays inside but I need to switch places now..

  4. I understand the need to stay home and to stop the spread of the virus, or at least slow it. Still, the increased state intervention to control movement is a bit frightening. Are they going to stop people walking to the supermarket to ask where they’re going? What about people taking a 5-minute walk (alone of course) near their home to get some fresh air and minimum of exercise? I understand that it’s careless to go out more than necessary at the moment. I just worry that some of the measures taken to ensure that everyone follows the rules will be excessive.

    1. Going to the supermarket is not a problem or a little exercise, but if they see you out every day going to the supermarket then they may become suspicious.

      1. Yeah, I won’t be going every day (have barely left my house since Wednesday). A strange time.

  7. Surely someone driving a car is less risky than someone out exercising, breathing heavily, coughing and spreading germs from trainers they have touched.

  8. We are English tourists that have had a wonderful week in Madeira. We admire the restrictions the government introduced and we adhered to them. We have returned to the UK to find empty shelves in the supermarket. We landed at Newcastle and decided to get a few essentials at a Sainsbury’s supermarket. I left with nothing. The shelves and freezers were bare. In Funchal the supermarkets were well stocked and no panic buying. I hope it will stay that way. We have to remember this virus will not decimate the planet. It will attack the vulnerable and elderly. These are the groups we need to protect. The virus is spread regardless of being indigenous to the country or if you are a tourist you only have to be human. We will return to Madeira when this crisis is over.

    2. The situation in the UK is terrible. The time has come for supermarkets to have security staff armed with baseball bats. Anyone pushing, shoving and trying to take more than they need gets thrashed with baseball bats. People will soon back off if that happened a few times.

      The time for pussy-footing is over. In France the likes of the CRS riot police will happily break arms & legs! We must get some discipline back.

  10. Agree totally with what the police is doing f%&$ human rights it doesn’t save live prevention of spreading the virus does save lives
