41 people admitted to the Covid Unit of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital

There are 41 people hospitalised in the Unit dedicated to Covid-19 of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, a number that can be explained by the transfer of the “about 20” infected people from the Hospital dos Marmeleiros, in Monte, to the main health unit in the Region, in Funchal.

According to Diário Notícias from a hospital source, three other people are hospitalised in the Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and in the Observation Room of the Emergency Department (SU).

As stated by SESARAM – in a statement of the start of the outbreak at Hospital dos Marmeleiros – the two dozen covid-19 patients identified in the referred unit are already “hospitalised in the dedicated area of Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça”.

It is recalled that the covidário of Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça reached this Thursday its maximum capacity. The Diário knows that about 10 patients had already been referred, on Tuesday, to other wards, in order to provide this area (Floor 1 – East) for patients with covid-19. The option for this extended space is due to the fact that it is the only one with direct connection to the covidary, although with some limitations.
