Requirements when travelling in and out of Portugal

Hi, just to let you know: there are new rules, basicly whenever travelling to a portuguese airport (even transfer) a PCR Test is required in advance, even for children from age 2 in mainland Portugal.

  1. Dear Tobi, based on what I read on the website you provided and TAP Portugal airlines updated information, a negative PCR test is not a requirement when transitioning through Portuguese airport (and not leaving the transit zone).

    1. With Madeira you do not need a test as we continue to test here, but Portugal have different rules, and now a lot of the airlines are asking for tests also.

    1. You don’t have to to come to Madeira you can be tested at the airport, and you are then taken to a hotel or stay in your home for up to 12 hours for a negative result. Emigrants and residents are then tested after 5-7 days, if the brought a negative test with them or if tested at the airport.

  3. I’d like to further investigate this. Let’s think hypotethically about the most common scenario of flying from Funchal back to mainland Europe through Portugal with TAP Air Portugal (with the final destination country not requiring a negative PCR test). Under the current regulations, would a negative test be needed to transfer through Lisboa?

  4. Confusion rules! I must say Madeira had the best arrangement with testing on arrival and 24 hour isolation awaiting results of test. Where this fell down was with people going to self-catering accommodation having to shop on their first day. Arrangements should have been made with providers of the accommodation, airb&b, etc. to provide a basic box of food to get people through the first 24 hours. Also people going to hotels should be required to have room service until they get negative result of test. I don’t think these arrangements were mandatory!

  5. So if a negative PCR test is required to be allowed on board of a flight departing Madeira, where can I have the test done? Do I have to apply for the test and if so, how long before the departure?
