Police investigate immigrants living in miserable conditions in Funchal

The Madeira Regional Command of the Public Security Police is currently investigating a house located in the city of Funchal where six immigrants are allegedly housed in less than decent conditions.

The four-bedroom residence, located in the parish of São Martinho, will not be ready to be lived in, despite being connected to the water network.

This will be just one of several properties owned by a Madeiran woman who illegally rents out spaces to immigrants from Asia.

Speaking to DIÁRIO, two Bangladeshi residents testified that the “unconditional” housing is only used for overnight stays, as they have nowhere to stay after work in local restaurants.

The amount paid by immigrants for room rent is between 100 and 200 euros, undeclared.

Let’s hope this woman gets a decent fine, and banned for renting anything in the future.
