‘William Restaurant’ at Reid’s Palace retains Michelin star.
The ‘William Restaurant’, at Reid’s Palace, a Belmond Hotel, in Funchal, saw its existing Michelin star renewed, now under the leadership of Chef José Diogo Costa.
Having already won eight consecutive years with a star awarded by the Michelin Guide, this distinction, this year with the kitchen led by the hotel’s new Creative Executive Chef, “reaffirms Reid’s Palace’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent culinary experiences, combining innovation, tradition and a stunning panoramic view over the bay of Funchal”.

Chef Benoît Sinthon was in the Algarve to receive the prestigious distinctions.
In 2009, ‘Il Gallo d’Oro’ was awarded its first Michelin star, raising the bar in 2017, the year in which it was awarded its second Michelin star, which it has maintained to date. Last year, the restaurant was one of three in Portugal awarded a Green star (shamrock), which rewards sustainability in gastronomy.
Desarma Restaurant receives its first Michelin star.
With just one year of existence, the restaurant at Hotel The Views Baía debuts among the best in the country.
The Desarma restaurant, at Hotel The Views Baía, in Funchal, has just been awarded a Michelin star.
This is the first time that Desarma, whose chef is Octávio Freitas, has received this distinction, joining three other Portuguese restaurants that also debuted with a star.
When he took the stage, in the Algarve, to receive the star, Octávio Freitas made a point of thanking all Madeirans, saying that he wanted to show that “it’s not necessary to leave Madeira, you can have a beautiful career, with regional products, without leaving Madeira”.
Restaurant ‘Horta’ among those recommended by the Michelin Guide.
The restaurant ‘Horta’, in Funchal, which has Santiago Agnolles as chef, was one of the 21 Portuguese restaurants, which, despite not having won any Michelin stars, are included in the first Guide just for Portugal.
It was Santiago Agnolles himself who took to the stage, in the Algarve, to receive the distinction, thus debuting among the best in the country.
‘Horta’ boasts a concept of healthy and comfort food. The restaurant is part of the Porto Bay Group and is located on the Lido Promenade, next to the Italian restaurant ‘Il Basilico’, from the same group.
