The night was tropical in Porto Moniz, Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz

It is already the fourth tropical night in Madeira in the middle of meteorological winter.

Last night was tropical in at least three locations on the coast of Madeira Island, both to the south and to the north.

This time in Porto Moniz, Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz, places where the air temperature – in the respective IPMA meteorological stations – did not drop below 20 °C between sunset, yesterday, and sunrise , today.

It is the first tropical night in the Region this February – the last month of meteorological winter -, but it is already the fourth tropical night that has occurred on the island of Madeira this year.

Vila do Porto Moniz once again became the ‘hottest’ location throughout the night, registering a minimum temperature of 20.7 °C (maximum temperature of 22.6 °C).

In Ponta do Sol/Lugar de Baixo, the minimum surface air temperature at night was 20.1 °C (maximum 20.9 °C). In Santa Cruz/Airport the minimum was 20.0 °C (maximum 22.1 °C).

With these mild values, this is the third tropical night recorded in 2024 – in the last 30 days – in Ponta do Sol/Lugar de Baixo, and the second episode to occur in Santa Cruz/Aeroporto and Porto Moniz.
