North coast of Madeira and Porto Santo can have waves of up to 11 meters

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) extended the orange warning on the north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo Island until midnight on Thursday due to sea unrest.

From the end of Monday afternoon, the orange warning lasted until 9 pm, which then dropped to yellow on the north coast and on Porto Santo Island.

For this period, IPMA predicts waves from the northwest with four to five meters that could reach 11 meters on the north coast of Madeira. From 00 am on the 8th (Friday), the warning turns yellow, between that time and 9 am.

IPMA warnings vary between red, orange and yellow. The orange warning indicates a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk, which ended up giving rise to an orange alert from Civil Protection, with some recommendations for the population.
