UK S1 Holders, act now

This has been shared on social media, and I have had it sent to me a few times. Tig James also shared it on the British in Portugal Facebook page .
The British Embassy in Portugal have asked us to publish the below message to our Members who are UK citizens and who may be S1 holders.
If you are an S1 holder living in Portugal, it is important you ensure that the personal information the NHS Business Service Authority (NHSBSA) hold about you is correct and up to date. The NHSBSA is the organisation that manages your continued right to healthcare in Portugal, funded by the UK.
You therefore need to confirm your contact details so NHSBSA can check you are entitled to the health cover you receive. Without this confirmation, NHSBSA will not be able to check your details and you may lose your S1 entitlement.
Please contact NHSBSA on OHS.S1emailupdate@nhsbsa.nhs.uk within the next 14 days (12 days left) and provide your Name and DOB. Please also include your:
  • email address
  • postal address
  • contact phone number
If it is more convenient you can also contact us (NHSBSA) via our contact centre number on +44 191 218 1999.

  4. Hi, Maybe I’m missing something but the link you provided for the update does not go anywhere direct, I can get on to nhsbsa website but don’t know where to put my information?
    Please ignore my ignorance, can you help??

      1. I think it is ONLY if you receive a letter from them
        Also it is only for mainland Portugal , they tell me

  5. I have just contacted the above on the given number
    Have been told it is ONLY for people living in Portugal mainland ( not a Portuguese Island )
    IF you receive a letter from them , you have to act on the letter
    If anyone knows anything different please advise

  7. I must accept some responsibility here for having passed on a copy of the British Embassy’s request to Tobi. The Embassy has apparently issued an apology for the lack of clarity in its communication, but it also seems as if NHSBSA haven’t been giving the whole picture either.

    It appears that there is a genuine request from NHSBSA for UK nationals who have an S1 form registered in Portugal (including the autonomous regions, such as Madeira) and whose contact details have subsequently changed to contact them with updated details via the e-mail address given. If your contact details have not changed, there’s no need to get in touch. The NHSBSA has, it seems, not been issuing letters, regardless of what the helpline may be saying.

    If you don’t know what an S1 form is, you’re not affected: it’s issued to people who retire (and some others) who still qualify for UK-funded medical care in the EU (people covered by the EU withdrawal agreement) and you’d know if you had one.

    Apologies for my part in passing on a request from the Embassy that they had apparently not cleared with NHSBSA in advance.
