32 people displaced by the fire will spend the night in Calheta and Funchal

The 32 people who were left homeless following the fire that occurred this afternoon on Rua das Mercês, in Funchal, now have a place to spend the night.

Social Security will relocate them to the Youth Hostel in Funchal, the Youth Hostel in Calheta and the Associação Protectora dos Pobres.

All evacuees are adults and will continue to be monitored.

The Judicial Police is investigating this fire, which mobilized more than two dozen firefighters to the scene.

The first information indicated that 20 people were displaced, but other residents were unable to return to their homes, which were damaged by the fire.
