  1. Whilst I appreciate the work and economic benefit a golf course will bring to the island I still detest the idea of golf courses in general. In my simplistic view, these are almost always built in prime land, occupying vast natural areas that were once accessed and available to the local populations. They consume vast quantities of water. Once established, these clubs will become the sole domain of the very rich and well connected for their sole pleasure. Ordinary people will be economically or socially barred from enjoying something beautiful on their own island. I detest all forms of elitism and this fits right up there.

  2. So, your alternative to the work and economic benefit a golf course will bring to the island is? Looking at two photographs of the pub Golf Society I played with, I see three retired, a taxi driver, a double glazing fitter, an undertakers assistant, an accountant, a dust bin lorry driver, retired, a social club steward, an ex-BT rigger, a friend, with no edge, who owns three vintage Rolls and a prison warder. Not a lot of elitism there. Ordinary people, who play alongside and with, some considerably better off than ourselves. But we tend to view, if they’ve worked for it they deserve it. Premier League season tickets are far more than the average price of Golf Club subscriptions. Are you including supporters who buy these in your understanding of elitism? Yes it is a simplistic view.
