The president of the Regional Civil Protection Service said this morning that the Procivex 24 exercise aims to speed up the coordination of resources.
António Nunes admitted that in a real situation “it is practically impossible to help everyone in the South of Madeira and Porto Santo”, explaining that with this simulation the Regional Civil Protection Service also intends to identify some gaps to be corrected in the event of a tsunami.
“Madeira has the means to respond to the situations that happen here. In a situation like this, I believe that no country in the world will be prepared to respond to this scenario alone.
There is not enough capacity to respond to this situation and external assistance is always acceptable in extreme situations”, explained the colonel.
He also warned the population that, in a situation like this, people should immediately move to the highest points.
