Madeira records record maximum temperature this year in Pico Alto

IPMA thermometers reached 31.3 ºC at 2 pm this Wednesday.

On the day that the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued an Orange Warning for hot weather in mountainous regions, Pico Alto, located in the Funchal Ecological Park, recorded the highest maximum temperature in the Autonomous Region of Madeira this year.

At an altitude of 1,129 meters, the National Meteorological Service’s thermometers reached 31.3 ºC at 3 pm this Wednesday, July 24. 

On Saturday, the highest temperature record for the first seven months of 2024 was recorded in São Vicente at 30.4 °C.

The Orange Warning, which indicates a moderate to high risk meteorological situation, is in force until 6 pm tomorrow. The IPMA warns of persistently high maximum temperature values.

The rest of the Madeira archipelago is currently under a Yellow Warning for hot weather.
