The Porto Moniz Agricultural Market, located next to the Santa Maria Madalena Forest Park, where the Livestock Fair takes place, will be reopened in September and will host an Agricultural Fair once a month. This was revealed by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, on the sidelines of a visit to the 67th Livestock Fair, which ends today at Santa do Porto Moniz.
“Starting in September we will open the new Porto Moniz Agricultural Market where we will hold a fair every month”, he declared.
Regarding the state of the primary sector in the Region, Albuquerque believes it is doing well because it guarantees income for farmers.
“All producers have had gains” in the different variables of the primary sector, he considers.
Proof of this is the vitality of the Livestock Fair, which continues to be very popular, both with exhibitors and stallholders, as well as the general public.
“It was a very difficult fair to hold this year”, he added, referring to the damage caused by the devastating fire last October.
It is certain that “after the fair we will complete the rehabilitation of the space” which “will be used by the population and visitors throughout the year”, he announces.
Regarding the complaint made by the local priest during the homily at the open-air mass held at the fairgrounds, who called for the replacement of public lighting on the regional road between Portas da Vila and Achadas da Cruz, “if all the problems we had were these… we would certainly respond to this request”, he promised.
