The fire is still burning in Ribeira Brava, which required additional resources this afternoon. There are now 21 firefighters on the ground from three fire brigades – Mixed Firefighters from Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol, Volunteer Firefighters from Madeira and Volunteer Firefighters from Câmara de Lobos – supported by seven vehicles, six fire-fighting vehicles and one command vehicle.
In addition to these, there are 10 members of the helitransport team and the multi-mission helicopter from the Regional Civil Protection Service went to refuel, but has already returned to the site.
Marco Lobato, Regional Operations Commander, confirmed to DIÁRIO that the fire is close to a local accommodation house in the Espigão area, but assured that, for now, it is not threatening the house. A team of Mixed Firefighters from Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol is next to the house on standby.
The Espigão road was closed to traffic due to the possibility of falling rocks.
The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation also reported that the pedestrian route classified P12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada was closed due to the fire.
