Group of digital nomads promotes forbidden trail considered dangerous

A group of digital nomads, ‘Madeira Digital Nomads’, is promoting a forbidden and dangerous trail on their social networks.

This is the path that gives access to Calhau da Lapa, which was closed for an indefinite period, more than two years ago, by the Ribeira Brava Municipal Council, as it did not meet the necessary safety conditions due to the instability of the cliff and the risk of falling rocks.

Despite the author of the video warning that this is a dangerous area, he is shown walking the entire route, from the beginning of the path – where there are even signs warning of the imminent danger – to the beach and caves of Calhau da Lapa.

The post, which was made on Tuesday, has already received several likes and shares, but also comments from other users criticizing the attitude of the group, which is followed by almost 8 thousand people. “You film and show dangerous and closed hikes that are not safe, not even for you, and then advise your followers not to go there as a warning. Try not to post these types of videos, this is the only way to keep everyone safe,” it reads.

As a justification for one of the disagreeing comments, the author of the page explained the reason for presenting this type of content. “No place is ‘safe’; anyone can fall, slip, have a stone fall, which is why it is important to highlight the places and the risks,” he explained.
