  1. Awwww , had the most amazing times here as a child and growing up , met some amazing people over the years and some of them no longer with us

  2. When we first started going to the island we used to stay in the Santa Isabel hotel next door and remember the Savoy well. We saw our first New Year fireworks on the roof of the Savoy. Good times.

    1. First holiday after we were married, Nov 1985 we stayed at the Santa Isabel and it was really good, everyone was so friendly and we have never stopped coming back since. The barman made the best Cheese and Ham toasties even late at night, sad to see it go but as you say Maurice, good times and great memories.

  3. We stayed there for many years before moving to Madeira . Our friends were there for the last 2 weeks before the Savoy closed for good . We all had breakfast in the dining room on the last day . So sad .

  4. We too first stayed in the Santa Isabel on our first trip to Madeira in 2001– and had our honeymoon in a suite in the Classic Savoy in 2002. I think it was the same suite where Margaret Thatcher and Denis stayed for their Golden Wedding.
    We won’t be staying in its replacement!

  5. We have spent 15 years at the Royal Savoy. We are looking forward to staying at the new Palace later this year. All the new environs in and around the Royal and the Palace and the Donna Emelia look really good.

    1. It’s all looking very nice, they have done a great job with the tree, and it’s great to have a big carpark down there. I will be interested to know how you find the Savoy Palace.

  6. Just arrived home from Madeira for new years eve..awesome…third time..the savoy was the first hotel we stayed in..so sad to se no longer.met lovely local people…always in my heart, Maderia.x
