MADEIRANS HANDLED 1.8 BILLION EUROS IN CARDS IN 2019

Data provided by the Interbank Services Company (SIBS) show that the amounts for the two main operations of the Multibanco network (withdrawals and purchases through automated payment terminals), taken together, grew by 3% in 2019, compared to 2018, reaching a record amount of 1.8 billion euros. In the case of international cards, the increase in this aggregate was 8.0% and in national cards was 7.2% – reported today the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira.

In 2019, 704.7 million euros were withdrawn from RAM’s ATMs, 25.3 million euros higher than the previous year (+ 3.7%). Domestic withdrawals exceeded 645.4 million euros, up 4.0%, while international withdrawals stood at 59.3 million euros, up 1.4% from 2018.

Purchases through automatic payment terminals (TPA) reached € 1,053.2 million in 2019, up 9.8% compared to 2018. Purchases made with domestic cards were around 828.4 million euros (+ 9.8%), while purchases made with international cards stood at 224.8 million euros (+ 9.9%).

On the other hand, payments increased by 7.5%, with the amount involved in this type of operation standing at 150.2 million euros.
