  1. Hi Tobi,

    Can you ask on the blog if someone from Ribeira Brava who has personally seen the closed store can tell us which store it is? Not everyone reads the comments and a direct request from you on the blog might help.

    Like many people I shopped in Ribeira Brava the day before one of the stores closed. Not knowing which store was closed I do not know whether to throw out the meat and fresh veg/fruit I bought – all handled by store employees. I think the health authorities not identifying the store is misinformed and careless.

    I imagine some of the residents know first hand, and perhaps they could share that info with the rest of us who shop in Ribeira Brava but do not live there?

    2. Do not throw the food out. The virus does not spread by food packaging so please use it.

    Excuse my ignorance, but the map of madeira and Porto Santo shows one case on the golden island. the comments underneath seam to indicate this person lives in funchal. Am i interpreting this correctly?

    Thank you for taking the time and interest to try to help me.

    In my message I mentioned that the food was meat and fresh veg/fruit that had been potentially personally handled by someone with the virus.

    It’s great you want to help by giving advice, but please be sure that particularly in this kind of crucial situation, your advice is for the correct situation.

    1. Ellen, fruit & veg just need a wash which you would normally do. Cooking meat & fish will kill any virus. That’s assuming the infected person personally handled the produce anyway.

      Please remember that this and other viruses are spread in the vapour that people cough and/or breathe out. A person who has the infection will not necessarily have it on their fingers.

      So please do not fret about this produce being a danger. There has been much about the topic of the virus surviving on different surfaces. They stressed that you should not worry about food & food packaging being a risk.
