Five consecutive days without new cases of covid-19 in the Region

Madeira has had no new cases of covid-19 for five consecutive days. According to the statement released by IASaúde, the Region did not record any positive cases this Monday.

It is recalled that the press conferences will be held only on Fridays, while on the remaining days the information from the epidemiological bulletin in the Region is disseminated through a press release.

  1. Only 4 new cases in the last 18 days and these 4 cases had already been isolated for 14 days when found positive.

    1. Quite remarkable isn’t it. It’s only for the fear of tempting fate that has stopped me eulogizing about what is happening here…

  2. To everyone reading this please remain careful and responsible. In the whole world more and more measures are being lifted, this in no way means the end of Covid-19. Corona mutates in 2 weeks as fast as the regular flu does in 10 years, you already have more then 30 strains currently, which means if you have been infected with the virus, antibodies to the new version of the virus won’t help. The second time you get it, it’s actually worse, cause your body realises the antibodies you have aren’t working against the new mutated version. For the same reason it’ll be hard to impossible coming up with a vaccine because of the fast mutation of the virus. A lot of people all over the world don’t realise this yet, it’ll be a hard confrontation for some to realise this and even the biggest critics about this virus will be confronted with the consequences of their behaviour. The less responsible people are right now, the harder the aftermath will be. However, if we remain responsible while helping each other get through this in a safe way, we will be able to suppress the virus on the island enough for everyone to be safe. You don’t want to get this virus even once, the more times you get it over time, the more you risk your life, also young people. The amount of people who pass away due to re-infection are numbers that’ll be clear in the future, not at this moment, so please don’t live in fear, just adjust your reality right now with having your future in mind, and spread this message to people who are still being ignorant about it.     1. In the case of flu, British scientists are close to producing a vaccine that hits the aspects of the virus that do not change when it mutates. This means the vaccine will fight off all variations of flu.

      Now as for covid-19, whilst it seems that it may be mutating, they are again looking at attacking the virus in a way that mutations will not matter. An Anglo/Norwegian lab have a vaccine that fights a similar virus and so are close to producing a vaccine for covid-19

      An answer might, just might come sooner than we originally thought. It will ultimately need some courage to take the vaccine knowing that it hasn’t had a year or more of testing.

  4. Vaccines are fully tested before being administered to humans. There are no short cuts to testing.

I didn’t know anything about what you were saying “MauriceGReed”, correct me if I’m wrong but when I do a quick google search to confirm your bias, the Norwegian researchers state they haven’t got anything to tell and it will take 5 years, best case, to produce a vaccine which is comparable to the one they’re working on for influenza, which “they had some succes with”. They just started looking into it. It’s a vaccine that would target all existing and future corona – viruses, if they’re able to make this, in 5 years at best, this could indeed be a solution. But apart from Pharma companies selling their stock on news like this, and people who love to believe in solutions, the big question here is that Corona mutates in a timeframe of 2 weeks. Compare the amount of strains to the flu and to influenza or to any other virus, but most importantly, look at the time period of like 2 weeks for it to mutate, this is a ratio that’s never seen before. It’s too fast for our bodies to build immunity against it that lasts a long time like with the flu, it’s also so fast that it’s nearly impossible to make a vaccine for it, you literally don’t have the time. So if you can’t do anything about it, you can ask what the point of shutting down society is, it would only cause more damage. You think I’m the only one who knows this? It’s basically – experimenting – with herd immunity, in other words survival of the fittest, this needs to be done in a very careful way, step by step, and the longer people remain ignorant about this, the worse the damage will be and the faster it’ll become clear. Again, the damage by reinfection is something that isn’t clear today but will be in the future. On the other hand, the damage done by fear amongst people is also something you can’t underestimate, you don’t have to sit scared at home in a corner with your mask on, think about your well-being too, you just have to be responsible and take the appropriate measures to protect yourself and others. You can still go on with life as if it’s normal, you just need to think about what you can do for the good of all people living around you, which means not putting your individual world first. This is sometimes hard for some but even these people will have to realise this eventually, the sooner they understand the importance of unity in this situation, the better. I think Madeira is doing a good job in trying to balance restrictions to think about the people while simultaneously thinking about the virus, it’s actually the only thing you can do right now, adapt and balance out reality as good as possible to avoid an insane amount of damage in the future. To Robert, I’m not going to lay out what I do professionally, I don’t have anything to prove here. I normally don’t take this much time to type an answer on a news article but I felt the need to provide some value in this situation. All what I’m saying is also completely verifiable if you put in the right research. You can create another reality and believe your own truth if you want, but the truth still remains the truth. I don’t mean this offensive in any way to be clear and I’m talking more in a general way here. It’s just the psychology behind it. Some in the US created their own truth and were the cause of the amplitude of the first wave, and will unfortunately be the cause of a higher next wave. Please be more responsible, not ignorant, and don’t live in fear, just adapt to reality – which is still a gift in case you forgot

    Why aren’t they running the WHO?
    Sad people with nothing else to do but spout their theories.

Scientists have learnt a lot over the years in studying and fighting other viruses such as flu, Sars, Ebola etc etc. Although these are all different viruses but they will have common behaviours. As their knowledge bases expand the time taken to produce vaccines will drop. The thing is whether or not you use the vaccine immediately or spend a couple of years carrying out tests.

      It took 13 years to immunize enough prople to see off smallpox from 1967 to 80. The world’s population is greater now and there are now more areas where it is exceedingly dangerous to try and enter. It could take a hell of a lot longer to immunize the world now.

    2. I’m sorry to have seemed harsh but the truth hurts.
      You only have to read the comments in this thread to realise that nobody in the world yet fully understands this virus – not even the couple who try to impose their self opinionated, unsubstantiated statements.

  11. A little thought can go a long way. I know someone went to a dinner in March and the women next to her had a cold. Her reply was I did not want to have egg on my face by not turning up. In which the cold was passed on. Thought it was a selfish act. People would thought less of her if it went round the room. Winter flu time I can see lot of worried people.

  12. Well a bigger danger in society is maybe that dumb people don’t know they’re dumb, and contradict or laugh at statements made, based on their emotions and opinions. They rather believe in what they want to hear instead of checking and thinking about what’s being said. If some would actually do the effort to do research and share actual data here, we could discuss things together, at least we could have a valuable conversation. But people just think their opinion is more important, and defending it out of their ego with all means. Your getting the point of people believing their individual world is more important then anything else right? I think I indeed made the mistake to post a response on a news article 🙂

    1. Do you have any links detailing the information you provided Peter? There’s a huge amount of information out there and differing opinions, without seeing your sources I could only assume what I’m reading in what you said was just one of many scenarios that could play out, and one of the worst, albeit seemingly less likely possibilities. But perhaps you have seen information that others haven’t that you could share? I can also see big problems in the future if even healthy people can be reinfected again and again and what that would lead to but I’m yet to see any evidence showing that it mutates at such a rate to make vaccination impossible. Not that a vaccine is even remotely guaranteed mind you.
