With a few flights here coming in at the end of the mo th on beginning of June, it will be interesting to see what happens with the see passengers.

  1. What happen to the government directive only authorising 100 people with per week entry on flights and the ongoig safe control of tourists.

  2. Real answers needed
    When are restaurants allowed to open
    When are hotels opening
    Are flights allowed
    Jet2 say they are flying to Madeira on june 17th can this being true or wishful thinking
    I was due 28th june but dont feel I want to visit and be restricted in were I visit and eat, i enjoy going and walking around were ever i like
    Please give real answers

    1. Bars and restaurants will open from the 18th May, obviously not all will open as lack of visitors. I’m not sure how June will be with people coming to the island. July looks a little more promising.

  3. Tobi, I have a flight with easyjet from Bristol on 29th june for 10 days. Easyjet havent cancelled it yet. I love to come back and stay in my house in Ribeira brava. Madeira is a lovely island. My partner is Portuguese and his family still lives there. As long everyone is safe that’s all that matters.Thanks for your blogs Tobi I’m getting updated from Madeira news x

  4. I agree with Tobi. with his comment on Bars and restaurants, Any one who do go has to except whats open, Its a new world.

Hi Tobi, I think for Canadians to come back first issue is the travel advisory from government of Canada to be lifted as no travel insurance is being issued for that reason and that’s a big problem. We have already booked next January and I hope by then governments can come up with a common solution so we all can travel safely.

    After reading this article I have to say it’s a bit irrelevant to us at least.
    My wife and I love holidaying in Madeira and Portugal and can’t wait to return, as we have just had our trip to Lisbon for the Festival cancelled.
    The problem for us is the difficulty in getting holiday insurance, our annual insurance policy has just expired and they won’t renew it at the moment. So until the insurance industry decide on what cover they are going to offer I don’t think many people will be traveling anywhere anytime soon.

  7. I can see travel insurance going up. New rules as be well they be covering them self, It business. Also 60s above be hit as well. Travel insurances as well as ABTA have been hit hard resent events.

  8. I dont fear coming to Madeira I fear the that the danger ( covid) could return with visitors your R rate is less than 1 but if holiday makers turn up it will push your R rate up and being a small island could possibly put you in lockdown again. That’s why I am waiting till next year #staysafe

  9. Rescheduled my booking for Madeira from the end of mai upto the end of december. First of all: will the flights from Transavia en Tui (from Amsterdam) be availabe on a regular basis. next: will it be able to stay in our favourite hotel, without restrictions, next: will the restaurants re-open, next: will it be possible to drive over the island with the hired car.next; will we be able to stroll over the island? next: Will we feel comfortable,next: will the citizens of Madeira be comfortable with all this bloody tourists coming again from various countries? We’ll see, I think we have to be patient.

    1. Most of that is already happening, we can drive, walk etc now from today, beaches from Friday, bars restaurant’s from next monday. Hotels will start to open in July.

  11. Plucked up the nerve to ring BA to try and get a refund for our cancelled June flights. Having read articles in the newspapers I had expected quite a struggle. It took all of 10mins to get through and request a refund and have it all confirmed. Phew! What a relief,

Hi we are booked with jet2 to fly to Madeira on the 19th June for 2 weeks all inclusive at the hotel enotel lido resort this is for my 75 th birthday jet2 haven’t cancelled the holiday yet but if they don’t cancel will it be safe for us to come and will be restricted in our movements or be free to explore

    1. Will be free to move around the island I think, but big restrictions on hotels. I personally don’t think we will see many tourists in June, although there are going to be flights coming in.
