ALBUQUERQUE: “IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE CORRIDOR REMAINS OPEN”

The President of the Regional Government today considered it “very important” for Madeira to remain on the British air corridor.

“We have a progressive recovery in tourism. The United Kingdom represents an important market share for Madeira, and at the moment it is a market that is gradually recovering, along with the German market ”, Miguel Albuquerque commented today, speaking to the SIC television station, stressing that for the region “It is very important that this corridor remains open” for the “gradual recovery” to continue.

“It is evident that we, at the same time, are using all the support mechanisms, whether for companies, for employees or for those called category B, in order to alleviate their difficulties, but it is better for the corridor to remain open  and we continue to receive tourists even if more restricted than being completely closed, and there are restrictions on circulation ”.

Today, the English government has announced that it has removed mainland Portugal from the air corridor, but has kept Madeira and the Azores as safe destinations to which the British can travel without having to be isolated for 14 days on their way home.
