  1. I wish lovely villas in a lovely area. About 20 years ago we did seriously consider living in Madeira. Wish we had of done. Only allowed 6 in a house now. Doesn’t worry us as we have not let anyone over the doorstep since this all kicked off.

  4. I cannot see any of the published phrases from the Goverment what Madeira is famous for. The red roofs, the nature etc. This kind of architecture is the cold taste from northern Europe. Also I cannot see any reducing energy systems like panels etc. A green planted roof would help a lot. In big cities they start to bring back the nature into the center and make green facades and roofs. This architecture is out of what is trendy now. I am very sorry for this Island and what people do with.

  5. Doris, This is of course progress and every project has to be agreed by its Camera to be within regulatory guidelines. I think you will find these houses far more energy efficient and ‘green’ (by law) than many other houses here. You will find everything from traditional ‘Santana’ houses to modern contemporary and everything in between on the island, some of which won’t be to everyone’s taste. Luckily, we’re all different. ?

    Recently we have added 45,000 meters of land to the project, this land is full of invasive eucalyptus trees that we are clearing during the weekends. In the Spring when the flowers are sublime we will have an open day, its a great place, you will be welcome to come along.

    1. Good that someone is eradicating the eucalyptus trees. They may look nice but are a real fire hazard.

I hear now and then people complaining that new houses don’t have the”Madeiran” character and are ruining the island – personally I have only heard this from non-locals wanting to move to the island and looking for a house. Alot of Madeirans had to emigrate for work and they built their houses back in the island taking some of the influences of where they have lived. And it’s also part of Madeiran culture to be able to build your house in whatever style you want. Madeira is not like say the Netherlands, where all houses look exactly the same. So, for me, this is Madeiran history and character too! Bespoke villas, congrats on your garden work, it’s a very special touch that I really enjoy seeing!
