21 recovered and three new cases of local transmission

This Tuesday the biggest highlight goes to the number of recovered patients 21 with 142 now active cases of infection.

Today there are also three new cases of coronavirus in Madeira, all of which are locally transmitted “associated with positive cases previously identified”, reinforces IASaúde.

There are 115 suspected cases under study.

  1. If there are 6 people diagnosed with Covid on a Plane arriving in Madeira, do all the passengers then have to isolate for a number of days.

  2. Madeira has handled the virus problem relatively well. In contrast ro the UK. Although 60 million.oeiple are more difficult to deal with than say 330k in Madeira ! But Madeira’s 114 active cases compared with my Surrey Borough of 837 active cases in a population of 140k. So well done Msdeira.

    But the island could eliminate any imported cases by requiring ( as Spain has done to stem its disaster) with a current PCR certificate in order to come to Spain.

    Meanwhile here we have battened down the hatches. Lucky to have lovely country walks, Sainsburys home delivery, Amazon Prime and the latest ‘Crown’ series on Netflix !

    1. MichaelA, As I hope to be back, God and Boris willing, in December, please explain to me how to get this PCR certificate, what it entails and how it would prevent any cases getting through. I will certainly try to get one.

  3. This blog has too much Corona info. I think this deters people from escaping to this beautiful island. Leave it to the ones who aim to kill the economy of Madeira.

  6. Ok. Our Monday Jet 2 Edinburgh Flight was delayed by adverse weather conditions at Funchal. Funny thing is all planes landed on Monday.
    Anyway off we went on Tuesday and to jump forward to Madeira Airport we were extremely impressed with the way we were guided through and ultimately tested in super efficient manner and received negative results about 8 hours later.
    Now to two complete and utter idiots on the flight and in particular there behaviour on the approach and landing.
    They were not youngster but I would guess in their 40’s. They were opposite us at the rear of the plane and about as close as you can get to the Cabin Crew.
    They consumed at least 8 small bottles of vodka and gin throughout the flight with no attempt to wear masks at any time. Here’s the crazy part. 10 minutes before landing they were told put masks on and of course raise their drink and food trays. As the plane came in to land 2 full drinks were still on the female’s tray and I remarked to the missus lets hope its a bumpy landing.
    It was and the drinks jumped of the tray all over the idiots and to our satisfaction over their smart phones.
    Her reaction was “Fuc*ing Hell” Bloody idiot of a pilot.
    I really am not kidding when I say this really did happen and not exaggerating.
    Anyway our sitting outside our rented house in Paul do Mar looking forward to 4 weeks of sunshine and of course escape from Nicola Sturgeon and idiots like the 2 I’ve just described.

  7. I meant to add they continued off the plane with no mask, over the apron, through passport control and into baggage reclaim. That was the moment we managed finally shake them off.

  8. To answer George’s question about a PCR certificate, we have decided to get one before flying in January. We took the airport test last time, which was fine, but there is the element of risk here, and the thought of spending two (or more) weeks cooped up in a hotel room is unthinkable (worse even than being in a cruise liner !)
    So I Googled ‘Covid testing’ for my area and came up with a lab in Kirkcaldy. The problem of course is flying out very early on a Monday morning, whilst having the test at the very earliest late Friday afternoon to comply with Madeiran requirements. The lab said no problem, they would have the result by Sunday. Now what format this is in, to be acceptable to Madeiran authorities, I’m not sure..
    The tests will cost £140 each – quite steep, but what price peace of mind ?
    Let’s hope the vaccine gets rolled out in the meantime – but would that enable one to travel immediately ? I doubt it.
    I fear our January trip is not going to happen, but, fingers crossed.
