A driver did not escape the scare when, on Christmas day, the force of the water that flowed in Ribeira dos Moinhos, in the parish of Boaventura, overflowed and crashed across the expressway, right in front of the connecting tunnel to Ponta Delgada, precisely at the moment when the vehicle was heading for the entrance of this underpass opened in August 2017.
As can be seen in the video recorded and later published on Facebook by Alexandre Figueira, a Madeiran emigrant from the United Kingdom who is on vacation at her parents’ house, the driver escaped by millimeters from the force of water that could have dragged the vehicle . The woman’s prompt reaction – which stopped and reversed – was decisive and prevented another outcome.
