88 new positive cases in Madeira

According to the Regional Directorate of Health, Madeira now registers 88 more cases of covid-19, accounting for 4986 confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus.

It is a case imported from the Northern Region of Portugal and 87 cases of local transmission, most of which are already associated with contacts or contexts of positive cases.

It should be noted that two of the cases of local transmission reported today were identified in the context of epidemiological investigations in Residential Structures for the Elderly, being a resident and a collaborator.

There are still 235 new situations under study by health authorities.

At the moment, there are 1972 active cases in the Region, of which 102 are imported cases and 1870 are of local transmission.

Regarding the isolation of active cases, 71 people are hospitalized at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital (63 people in a Multipurpose Unit and eight in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to covid-19) and 42 people are isolated in a dedicated hotel unit, remaining remaining in own accommodation.

A further 85 recovered cases are also reported, with the Region now accounting for 2974 recovered cases of covid-19.

To date, Madeira has recorded a total of 40 deaths associated with the disease.

Two patients with the new coronavirus died at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, an 81-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman. Both patients had associated comorbidities and were being followed up by health professionals at the covid-19’s Multipurpose Unit.
