Containment measures in force in Madeira until 21st February

The Regional Government approved, this afternoon, the extension of the confinement measures in force until February 21, 2021. This was the main decision taken in the Governing Council this afternoon.

So the curfew and all restrictions will stay in place till after the carnival period.

  2. It only proves that it has no effect on the spread of the virus. It just makes people losing jobs and business will collapse and people will be poorer and crime rate will raise. It proves how how stupid this government is.
    Just a show for politicians for people to think they act.

  4. Yes we are only humans but we can stick to rules. I haven’t seen my family since Christmas because they stay outwith my local area. All my friends are the same with their families and we aren’t even meeting up outside. We want to contain this virus.

  6. I see lots of people trying to find who to blame, the government or the people. I like to understand, blame on what? In case you have not realized most services are working during the day as usual, restaurants are open during the day, shops are open, shopping centers are open, children are at school like they should and th health system is not overwhelmed (about 28% occupancy of the covid-19 dedicated unit.

    Countries like UK are on total lockdown, the numbers are dropping because everything is closed, children cannot go to school as they should, restaurants are closed, people are not allowed to travel for no essential reasons, etc. As soon as they turn the plug on, new cases will rise sharply and it will take one month until they decide to shutdown everytjing again.

    Madeira has found a balance where I can still walk, drive, cycle from 5am to 7pm without the officer asking me what I doing. My kids can go to school, I can have lunch at restaurant with my family or go to cinema. And even with all that, the health system is coping well with the cases. This is the balance that every country should find.

    As I have done for the last 30 years I have come with my mother at the beginning of December normally for a month and did the same this year as we broke no rules and had the test
    Because of the bans On flights and British airways cancelling three times and the next flight is 1 March we are unable to return
    The UK government want my 94 year old mother on return to be locked up for ten days with no exceptions in a hotel or government accommodation which is like a prison sentence. In an establishment like that she and myself are bound to get the virus and the government are proud of this action
    Obviously we will stay here to avoid such a heartless situation
    Madeira from the start has done everything right and the UK everything wrong

  8. Full lockdown is coming sooner or later . shops restaurants bars are all open no social distancing what’s so ever the virus is spreading business as usual they say .

    1. There will be no lockdown. We are still one of the best places in Europe, I Don bknow why you keep banging on about lockdowns, just stay home and you will be OK.

  10. Every Nation has made mistakes some more than others.
    The biggest mistake was Government’s allowing non -essential travel to continue at the latter
    end of 2020,when it was predicted that Covid would be at its most lethal due to travel and the
    Festive Celebration.
    New variants were also doing their rounds and still some people were deluded in thinking
    “I,m alright Jack ” .

    The Governments in most Countries now recognise that and have imposed further and tougher
    restrictions and going by some comments on blogs some folks are aggrieved that their plans
    for their imminent holiday is a no go.

    Time to show a little empathy firstly for the unfortunate people and families who have suffered
    in one way or another because of the Pandemic and also the authorities who are facing unknown
    difficulties every day.

    I cannot speak for other Nations but the UK “Stay At Home” was blatantly ignored.
    Many people who have been hospitalised post Christmas in the UK came from overseas.
    Everyone must take responsibility for their actions and heed advice,especially those experiencing
    cabin fever,maybe then we will resume some normality sooner than the now predicted later.

  11. Madeira got it right in the beginning – test on arrival! I live 80 miles from airport so now, in order to travel to Madeira, I have to drive to hotel 3 days prior to departure to get test – hotel expenses, test expense and restricted to hotel room. Another test before returning to UK and 10-14 days quarantine on arrival, more hotel expenses, to say nothing of the boredom, when I could collect my car at airport and drive straight home where I would be isolated in any case in my country home. Until travelling rules revert to the original arrangement when travelling to Madeira, we will not be coming, sadly! Regular visitors and time-share owners will doubtlessly agree! Governments and authorities need to waken up to the economic fall-out of their policies!
