EXTENSION OF CURFEW DECIDED ONLY 14 DAYS AFTER RETURNING TO SCHOOL

The extension of the curfew is a hypothesis, but any decision will only be taken after 14 days of returning to school and after assessing the epidemiological situation, said Miguel Albuquerque.

The President of the Regional Government refuses, for now, any additional measure to the municipality of Machico, due to the greater number of cases of covid-19 that exist in that municipality of the Region.

Control control control. I agree he has done a great job, but now it’s all about control and power, and nothing else.

  1. As always, the people who complaint about curfew extension are the same that would complaint if we got to the end of the month “red listed” in most countries when tourism starts to pick up. We just had Easter celebrations and 58,000 students went back to school. You do need to see this effect before opening economy after 6pm.

  2. Great job closing schools ruining important learning for the students coming generation???

    1. All students that are returning to school now were on home learning with their teachers. Saying that 3 months of home learning ruins their future is just stupid and does not help children emotional stability at all.

  3. Antonio, spot on, slowly slowly catchy monkey, pity the U.K. didn’t react like Sr Albuquerque when it all kicked of, it’s slowing down here now, may well pick up after the Easter festivities, a watching brief & react when appropriate..

    1. Why would it pick up. We have had hardly any students returning, and those were then tested, and hardly any tourism or Emigrants… Wake up….

      1. Tobi, I think you are mixing topics here. We are not talking about students returning from mainland. We are talking about students from the 7th grade up to high-school who have been on home learning since mid Januar and have now returned to scjool. As you know the so called british variant is more contagious among the young which is why UK ittself and many countries in EU closed schools.

  4. … Barely any deaths, Barely any Hospitalizations should mean it’s no longer a serious health risk and I think should be reason enough to relax restrictions, cases will be up and down for a long time especially when tourists return in numbers, but focus will hopefully be on keeping Hospitalizations and deaths minimal, if so then it should then be considered a Minor potential health risk and accepted as such just like we have accepted plenty of health risks we face in life …

    1. Restrictions are being lifted. That is why students are going back to schools from today. If you lift curfew in the next 15 days there won’t be more flights arriving because of that anyway. Tourism will only pick up from mid May or June and nothing you do or do not do now will antecipate that date. A fortnight of dinners out now is not worth 2 or 3 months with more restrictions. One step at the time.

    If i stay at home from 19:00 and not from 22:00 – how does that influence the situation about Covid19?

    1. Merlin, this is not about individual behavior but about collective behavior. It always has been. So, maybe whether curfew starts at 7pm or 10pm does not make any difference from your perspective, but on a collective behavior perspective there is an increased risk at the evening/night hours. People from different households do not tend to gather during the day, they tend to gather at night for a meal, drink out, etc. People tend to drink more during the evening/night. People tend to stay longer inside rather than outside during the evening/night. The young tend to gather at night, not during the day. It is really not difficult to see why there are such differences between day and evening/night hours.

  7. Looks/sounds like the people in this Island are not smart enough to understand, that with a pandemic it is better to have less contact.
    Or they do not believe, that there is a dangerous pandemic.

  9. President is only doing what he is told. If it was up to him I think there would be no restrictions in Madeira.

  10. I think he is doing what he feels is best for the Island, just my thoughts.
    I have been visiting for a number of years and love the place but know little about the politics.

    The personal values are derailed precisely by this senseless regulation of the imprisonment of free people.
    Right know people meet at noon not in the evening, because most of them are already unemployed and the tourism is standing still.

    Illogical and stressfull to drive home in roaring heat

    frustrations, anxiety, grief isolation, distance, depression, bad food weakens the immune system…good for the virus
    &
    Joy, courage, happiness, freedom, contact, affection, good food strengthens the immune system…very bad for the virus!
