Government reinvests money from entrance fees in Cabo Girão

The Regional Government will invest more than 180 thousand euros to improve the support area for the Cabo Girão Viewpoint. Work begins next week and aims to provide better accessibility conditions for people with reduced mobility and ticket sales, among other things. The contract was signed yesterday by Pedro Fino, with the work being awarded to the company José Avelino Gonçalves & Filho, Lda., through prior consultation.

The improvement works worth 181,528.9 euros, including VAT, will not result in closure to the public. There will be specific parking lots for motorcycles and spaces for reduced mobility; and the adaptation of the existing store to include a changing room and pantry area. Accessibility to the suspended platform will also be guaranteed through a chair for people with difficulty or inability to get there on their own feet. The ticketing area will grow, it will now have three more payment boxes, and for now, on-site ticket acquisition is done at just two stations. A small cabinet will also be created, equipped with wind protection glass.

These works arise following requests made and represent the reinvestment of part of the revenue obtained there. These include, according to the specifications, demolitions, metalwork, reinforced concrete, masonry, wall and ceiling coverings, flooring, painting, markings, replacement of sanitary equipment, placement of railings, fences, doors, openings, lighting, installations and electrical equipment, piping, equipment for reduced mobility, fixed and mobile, including markings, signage, routes and other civil construction work. The execution period is 60 days.

The Cabo Girão Viewpoint is open to the public every day between 8 am and 8 pm. Access to the platform is paid, costing two euros. Admission began to be charged on the 6th of March, with children up to and including 12 years of age, people with reduced mobility and residents of Madeira, upon presentation of proof, having free access.

In the first four months, between March 6th and July 7th, the Region raised 633,740 euros, having registered 335,000 entries, 316,870 paid. The daily average number of visitors at the time was around 2,700. In terms of average revenue, it was 5,110 euros.
