National Maritime Authority rescues man missing for five days in Madeira

The Port Captain and local Commander of the Funchal Maritime Police, in conjunction with the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcenter (MRSC Funchal), of the Portuguese Navy, with the Santa-Cruz Public Security Police station and with the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC IP-RAM), today coordinated a rescue operation for a 38-year-old individual, who had been missing since November 27th.

“Following the disappearance of a man, the MRSC Funchal was asked to carry out searches by sea, with crew members from the Funchal Lifeguard Station being called to the scene”, he explains in a note sent to the press.

The crew at the Lifeguard Station detected the man on a cliff near Caniço de Baixo, and immediately proceeded with the rescue to the port of Funchal.

The man was transported to a hospital by members of the Portuguese Red Cross.
