Councils agree to charge two euros in tourist tax

Madeira’s municipal councils have already defined the basic rules for charging tourist taxes in the region’s municipalities.

At AMRAM, this morning, they agreed to charge two euros per night, with a maximum of seven nights.

Now, each Municipality will make its own regulations, those that do not yet have them, and fees should be charged from the second half of this year.

Each municipality has the fees charged in its area.

Therefore, city councils do not waive the tourist tax.

Pedro Calado also added that each municipality will keep the fees charged in their respective municipality. “This is a municipal responsibility. Each municipality charges its own fees. What we wanted to do was standardize billing procedures so that we are not doing what each person wants.”
