Tourists risk taking a levada in torrential rain

Two women, of foreign nationality, aged 23 and 28, took the risk, despite the orange warning for precipitation, taking a walk on the Levada do Bom Sucesso, in Funchal.

The ‘tour’ ended up going wrong, as due to the heavy rain they had to ask the firefighters to intervene to get out of the place.

The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were alerted to the incident, mobilizing 16 elements to the scene, including the Mountain Rescue Team, supported by four vehicles.

The tourists had to be transported on a stretcher due to exhaustion and hypothermia.

They will be transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, where they will receive specialized medical treatment.
