Deputy Mónica Freitas states that the PAN “always maintained the same stance” in relation to the developments in the case of suspected corruption involving the president of the Regional Government, which even led to his dismissal. The other three defendants, who were detained, were released with an Identity and Residence Term, namely Pedro Calado, Avelino Farinha and Custódio Correia, as there was no evidence of committing crimes.
Questioned by journalists, on the sidelines of the plenary session at the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, the deputy states that the party “leaves what belongs to Justice to the courts and to politics what belongs to politics”. Mónica Freitas recalled that an investigation process continues and that “we must not fall into alarmism and speculation”.
At a political level, she says that what is important is to guarantee stability for people, pending the decision of the Representative of the Republic on the future.
Mónica Freitas was also asked about the implications for the parliamentary influence agreement. The PAN deputy states that “it does not change at all what we have said until now: there continues to be an investigation process, this is a first phase. It is not finished and there are several things to be resolved.”
“PAN prefers to analyze the situation at present”, said Mónica Freitas when faced with the possibility that Miguel Albuquerque could run again.
