Pedro Calado puts an end to his political career

Received with applause from people who were at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, Pedro Calado spoke to the media to affirm his innocence in the case of alleged corruption in Madeira and announce the end of his political and public career.

The former vice-president of the Regional Government of Madeira clarified that he resigned from his position as president of the Funchal City Council for “the smooth development of the process” and “clarification of everything”.

Now he will dedicate himself to defending this process and to private activity, he said: “I will dedicate myself to private activity, I want to move away from everything that is public, political or party functions”.

Pedro Calado spent the last three weeks detained in the Judiciary Police dungeons, a time that he described as being crucial for analyzing the Public Prosecutor’s presentation and preparing the defense, thus guaranteeing the application of the less serious coercive measure, term of identity and residence with release.
