‘Nelson’ depression conditions the weather in Madeira at Easter

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts, for Madeira, during Easter week, rain, wind and strong sea agitation, due to the influence of the ‘Nelson’ depression, the name given by AEMET to a depression that will affect the state of time in our country, and particularly in the region.

The main core of this vast depression region, with associated frontal swells, extends from Iceland to Madeira Island.

Periods of rain or showers are expected, which should be more intense and frequent on Thursday, the 28th, and Saturday, the 30th, says the IPMA, stressing that the rain that occurs in the highest points of the Island may occur in the form of snow, namely at the end of the 28th, on the 29th, Good Friday, and on the 31st, Easter Sunday.

The wind is expected to blow from the moderate to strong western quadrant, with gusts of up to 80 km/h, and may exceed 100 km/h in the highlands, especially on the 28th and 30th of March, adds the IPMA, adding that maximum temperatures will , in general, fluctuate between 19 and 21°C, and the minimum temperatures between 13 and 16°C, except in the highlands, where they should be below 10°C.

As for the sea, strong sea agitation is expected, with waves from the Northwest, exceeding 4 meters, on the North coast of the island of Madeira and in Porto Santo, on the 26th and 27th, and which are expected to increase to a significant height between the 5 and 6 meters from the 28th, conditions that have already led to meteorological warnings from different associations.
