The corpse found, late this afternoon, in São Vicente, is female and everything indicates that it will be that of the French tourist who had been missing since March 16th.
“The discovery of the body is confirmed and, initially, it will be the lady of the tourist couple who was missing”, PSP commissioner João Góis told DIÁRIO.
Due to the state of composition of the body, it is not yet possible to officially confirm the identity, but everything suggests that it is the body of Véronique Blond. “Due to her clothing, everything indicates that it is her.”
There are several PSP and PJ operatives at the scene who are now carrying out the usual collection of photographs and any clues that could indicate what really happened. In addition, there are also elements carrying out searches in the surrounding areas in search of the man’s body. “But as it is getting dark we will suspend the searches and continue tomorrow again”, he stressed.
As DIÁRIO said, the alert was made by a foreign citizen, who was walking the Fajã da Areia trail, and who initially “noticed the smell” and, later, the discovery of the corpse, which ” it was close to Caminho da Abelheira, but already more than 100 meters off the trail”.
JM reports it was on a trail in the lapas forest area, so it’s still not sure where the body was found.. If in the forest the other body should be close by.
After the authorities remove the body, it will be sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine, where an autopsy will be carried out to determine the identification and causes of death.
It is also known that the couple’s daughters, who are in France, are already aware of the situation, having been contacted by the French Embassy.
