Reformulation of the Campanário node to be implemented in the next government term.
The bathing space at Calhau da Lapa, a hidden place next to the mouth of the Campanário river, will remain officially closed for safety reasons related to the instability of the cliff.
‘Closed’ to bathers and other users for two years, there is still no forecast for reopening. The president of the Regional Government refers any decision – whether to maintain closure or reopen – to a technical report to be issued by the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory, which has been monitoring the evolution of the situation on the escarpment, which showed signs of danger in May 2022.
“We have to wait for the study regarding the situation of the escarpment and only after the report we can take action”, he admitted this afternoon on the sidelines of a visit to the company operating in the parish of Campanário.
“I can’t announce anything without knowing, technically, because we’re talking about people’s safety”, explained Miguel Albuquerque, in the presence of Ricardo Nascimento, president of the Chamber whose mandate was suspended due to being a candidate for the Regionals, and Jorge Santos, president of the Chamber in office, and also David Sousa, president of the Parish Council.
Regarding the problematic Campanário Knot, he reiterated his commitment to ‘untie’ the knot if he is re-elected president of the Regional Government.
“If I am the Government, I will complete the Campanário situation”, he promises. He assures that the same commitment must be fulfilled regarding the requalification of the Ribeira Brava seafront, with the new Ribeira Brava auditorium and also with the desired extension of the promenade between Tabua and the center of Ponta do Sol, “among other works that we are going to do”, he reinforced.
