André Silva, 2nd place and best Portuguese in the Madeira Sky Race, considers the Madeiran race to be the best or one of the best on the national circuits.
“It was a very tough race, but extremely close. The fight for second place was until the end. I didn’t have many expectations, because I haven’t been able to compete for 5 months”, he said at the end of this Saturday’s race.
“It was my first race that I was going to try to do well, a World Cup race. I felt like I had my legs, but I didn’t know how I was going to be at a competitive level”, he pointed out.
“It went quite well, despite the terrain being very dangerous today, because it was raining and it was very slippery. We had some falls, I think we all had some falls. And even so we managed to run below the time of last year’s winner, which is a good friend of mine, the Spaniard, António Martinez”, described the athlete.
“I’m very, very happy. This route for me is the best in Portugal, despite it being very tough. It’s a super varied route, it has technical areas, running areas, steep climbs. It has everything you can expect from trail running and in sky running. It is a race that, if not the best, is one of the best in Portugal”, said the Portuguese athlete.
